A Blast from the Past with Lakes Country 102.1 Owner Bill Payne
Lakes Country 102.1 Owner Bill Payne in the 1960s... when he started his first FM radio station in the garage of his home (at 1305 South Boulevard on the west side of Edmond OK) with the tower in the back yard and the transmitter in a spare bedroom. Bill does a talk on "How to Start A Radio Station In The Garage Of Your Home and Live To Tell About It". Gail his wife told him after the station was still in the garage after 5 years that if he didn't get it out of the house, she was leaving. Since he loved her a little more than he did radio, he moved it to another house and the station was called broadcasting house similar to Westinghouse! The photo below was used in the 2007 City of Edmond Calendar (Note: the cell phone and the American Idol poster were spliced in and not in the original picture.)
